The latest My Building Code version is available now for web browsers in the next few days, the update will be available in the App store for iOS devices and in Google Play for Android devices. This will, in turn, influence future features and shape the product to meet their needs.
With this in mind, the app will continue to be available for free during the introductory period to allow professionals who use the OBC to provide further feedback. The developers of My Building Code are committed to creating a product that meets the needs of its user base. Functionality such as Ontario Building Code Volume 2, personalized comments, calculators and team collaboration are planned for future releases. Feedback from users has been a key tenet of the My Building Code development plan, and has influenced which new features will be introduced.īased on user feedback, the latest version of My Building Code includes the ability to create custom bookmarks – synced across user devices – for frequently accessed sections of the Code, navigation improvements and the ability to copy and paste sections of the code from within the app to other documents. Cottagers are encouraged to utilize the services of an architect, building designer and/or licensed carpenter to ensure that plans and materials will meet code. Cottagers are, however, still required to follow the building code with respect to design and material requirements.
Please see the Sewage System Inspection fact sheet for more information.įor the construction or structural maintenance of cottage lot structures (e.g., cottages, sleep cabins, ancillary structures), there are no building inspectors responsible for conducting inspections under the building code for work within Algonquin and thus no "building permit" is required (a work permit from the Ministry is still required). Remember that a work permit from the Ministry is also required for all sewage systems including an outhouse. Other than the building of an outhouse, the applicable sewage authority for your area must be contacted and a permit obtained for the building or repair of any sewage systems. For cottages in Nightingale Township (including Rock Lake, the Madawaska River between Rock and Whitefish Lakes, the southern end of Whitefish Lake and Galeairy Lake) the applicable authority is the Township of Algonquin Highlands. Thus most cottage lots in the park are under the authority of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority. Sewage systems are managed by the "applicable authority" as defined within the act. Because most of Algonquin Provincial Park is in area of unorganized townships, the building code enforces sewage systems and structural building differently. Although the Ministry (Ontario Parks) staff do not enforce the building code, cottagers are still required to follow the code for the construction and maintenance of cottage lot structures and sewage systems.
